This research paper explores the political history of Jammu and Kashmir, a region known for its complex dynamics and ongoing conflict. Situated in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, Jammu and Kashmir’s political course has been shaped by historical, geographical, religious, and cultural factors. This study explores key events, ideologies, and actors that have influenced the region, with a focus on the post-partition era. The paper examines the decision of Jammu and Kashmir to accede to India, the adoption and subsequent amendments of Article 370, the rise of militancy and abrogation of Article 370. It also analyses the territorial dispute between India and Pakistan and its impact on the region’s political landscape. By considering historical, cultural, and geopolitical factors, this paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of Jammu and Kashmir’s political history. It highlights the aspirations and struggles of the Kashmiri people for self-determination and autonomy, and it contributes to existing scholarship while suggesting avenues for further research and peaceful resolution.
